For most people. Or maybe just myself going to the supermarket is a terrible waste of time, money and believe it or not, bad for your health and the environment. That might sound crazy, but you’ll apprietiate my words as you read further. E-commerce for those who have just come out of their nuclear fallout bunkers, is the practice of buying and selling goods online, over the internet.
I’m going to say a few cons about going down to the local store, and I’ve managed to scrape up about two pros.
1. The truth is, you probably drove to your supermarket, so you’ve used up precious gas
2. you’ve walked up and down every isle to make sure you could find the things you needed
3. Had to stand around a bunch of strangers getting exposed to whatever diseases they might be carrying (bird flu anyone)
4. You get line rage while waiting for the 16yr old trying to checkout the person in front of you arguing about a 5 cent off coupon.
Having to drive down to the store is one thing if you just have to get something in your hands instantly, but if a two day delivery time won’t hurt, then you should seriously start considering modernizing the way you do your shopping.
Today shopping online is not only the most convienient thing to do, but you can do it quickly, safely, and from just about anywhere with internet access. As an example, I’m going to talk about LiveWebShop.com as its one of my favorite online shopping sites.
They have everything broken down into categories much like your walmat does. Just like your local walmart you can buy everything from books and dvds to groceries and lingerie. Unlike Walmart there are actually thousands more products, for example you couldn’t buy a wet saw or a pair of Nike sneakers there, forget about that Dennon audio system at Walmart too.
LiveWebShop.com has an incredible search feature as well. Just like Google its going to find the most relevant result to what you are searching for, but its going to give you the option to sort by price, best selling and most popular.
Just like the shopping cart you find in any supermarket, you’ll be able to add products into a virtual cart, sorry no squeaky wheels on this cart. The cart lets you update the quantity of a product or remove it all together, in addition you always see your total price so you don’t have to do any calculations in your head.
In anycase online shopping has already started to change the way alot of people do their shopping. I suggest that everyone try doing a little shopping online, to get the experience, and enjoyment. For myself, I have a pretty busy life, between kids and work, getting out to a real store is reserved for gasoline and the inevitable last roll of tp scenario.

Nice plug for your own site….you’re supposed to disclose if you own a website or not (or involved with it) to show that you’re opinion is bias.

John, actually I used my site as an example, but the entire article I wrote, I stand behind 100%. I’m bias to online shopping because I believe it’s the better thing to do, not because I’m an e-commerce developer, that part should have been clear just by looking at the site right : ) , sorry if I didn’t say up front that I’m a developer, I hope that clears up any confusions.
