Anyone with hard water in their community can relate to the problem of some pretty impregnable stains. Cool Tools has a nifty solution for this:
I used to scrub fruitlessly at toilet bowl rings until one day I tried pouring in some white vinegar (maybe a cup or two) and leaving it overnight. Everything came off in about a minute after that.
The tip goes on to add that if you’re in a hurry, you can leave the vinegar in there for as little as twenty minutes; I’ve gotten this to work on showers and sinks as well.

Ever have one of those dragging days? The Happiness Project suggests you can get an instant short-term energy boost simply by going outside:
Go outside into the sunlight; light deprivation is one reason that people feel tired. Research suggests that light stimulates brain chemicals that improve mood. For an extra boost, get your sunlight first thing in the morning.
This is especially important for those of us who spend our workdays behind a computer screen; natural light not only can energize you, but it also saves your eyeballs from getting too tired.

When negotiating your fee for a job with a potential business client, it can be tricky to come up with a reasonable estimate. Web Worker Daily suggests that you estimate your numbers from small to large:
Estimate in inch-pebbles, not milestones. When you're faced with a large piece of work to estimate, don't try to come up with a single number to cover the entire job all at once. Break it down into pieces, and then break those pieces down into pieces until the pieces are small enough that you can see how you would do each one and put a number on them.
If you regularly estimate your costs for a potential job, please share your best tips for doing so in the comments.

I'm getting an error stating the ItemPage must be between 1 and 5. The error message is clear enough, but I thought the limit was 400. I am getting this when searching "All" but not when searching "Books". Is this a limitation of the "All" index?
Thanks,
-Ed

I've read in another recent thread, that AWS really doesn't want S3 being used as a web server. How does the AWS team, and Amazon, feel about using it for personal storage? I decided to use it for this and I purchased jungledisk to interface with it. It just dawned on me that no where did amazon talk about this, and Jungledisk didn't raise any red flags...
Sorry for starting another thread so soon, but i think this will be us a useful resource... if you leave a good answer ;)

Last week, I transfered 12gigs or so in a single transaction (via JungleDisk) and the log didn't report back any errors - First real successful big xfer to s3. I was excited.
Then today, my machine not changed in anyway, since the last transfer - I am having all sorts of errors. Mostly write delays, not being able to connect to host, etc. etc.
I verified issues by trying to connect via S3 Organizer; Firefox's extension.
The rest of my connection is fine, it seems - im not loosing packets anywhere and my itunes downloads are wicked fast.. im getting max throughput via my comcast cable connection.
I wanted to check to see if S3 is having any issues. Probably not, as everyone says it's bullet proof, but if nothings changed on my side, then why am i not able to get through?
How can I troubleshoot this?

I took another look at the gems available on rubyforge, and saw
http://rubyforge.org/projects/rightaws/From looking at the documentation, it seems like a pretty nice API to S3, EC2, and SQS. Anyone using it?

The BBC's Science and Nature section has an interesting quiz titled the "Sleep Profiler", a quick (took me about 5 minutes) assessment tool you can use to figure out how to make the most of your sleepy time.
My quiz results told me that I have a pretty good handle on how much sleep I'm getting, but that I may want to lay off the caffeine late at night—there was actually a whole page of results directed at my unique answers that turned out to be very helpful. So! If you have a few minutes, take the assessment and share your results in the comments.
