Forget Those Expensive Pet Stores and Vet Office Supplies

For those of us who have and love our pets, know that our little babies can be expensive sometimes.
Save some money on your pet supplies by not spending your hard-earned dollars paying the overhead of huge pet supply chains and expensive veterinarian offices. Instead consider online shopping, where the only overhead you may or may not pay is the expense of having the product shipped to you. Keep in mind that the cost of shipping is offset by the gas and time you save by not driving down to the local store.

When I first got my baby I wanted to make sure she had all the things she needed like a little dog bed, dog food, some doggie treats, dog shampoo, dog toys and very importantly some Frontline to keep nasty fleas and ticks away.

Be sure to take good care of your pet, and they will take good care of you. I hope you enjoy your time with your pet and that they give you many years of happiness.

Running Linux On Your iPod

I never run out of reasons to love linux hackers. As demonstrated in this video, someone has installed a linux image to boot on the iPod.

I happen to own an iPod myself, but I’m definitely interested in some of the other mp3 players like the Zune.

New Shopping Mashup: OrderItOnTheWeb.com

Just wanted to give a plug to a new shopping mashup called OrderItOnTheWeb.com . They’re blog just launched as well. The mashup uses some ajax for the image handling, amazon web services for the products, yahoo local api for local shopping results, and Google Maps Api to show the local stores in their Find It Local feature.

Over all it’s a very clean design, focus on customer service and support is obvious. The shopping cart itself is also a smooth integration of Amazon E-commerce Services api. Product detail pages on the site are integrated with Google Maps that also display local shopping results. This site in general is a strong example of how developers can use freely available apis to create innovative and revenue producing e-commerce applications.

One of the cool features that users will like is the price watch feature allowing them to keep track of product prices, on the products their interested in. Always nice to know that the price you are paying is actually a deal. Order it on the web will be a common phrase in most homes and offices as the site expands its features and registered members.

Getting Digged

Yesterday you may have seen a page that said the site was suspended. I’m the administrator of this server, but I actually had to suspend my own blog because I was getting too much traffic, to the point where it was causing services to fail, and nearly crippling the box. Many would probably think that’s fantastic, and I do too, but this blog is just a simple personal blog, it’s not a commercial blog.

In any case, the page that was getting all the attention was my post about how to turn Google into your own personal Napster. The funny thing for all the buzz recently is that it’s not a recent blog post, it was actually made back in October of ‘06. Anyways since Digg.com has been nice enough to remove me from their #1 position in their top ten topics and I can finally have my site back.

Ms. Dewey Makes Google Blush

Ok, here is the one search engine that could make Google blush. It’s called Ms. Dewey. A search engine driven by a very sexy sort of interface, actress and my future wife Janina Gavankar. This is the first of it’s kind. The back end is driven by Microsoft’s Live Search.

Janina Gavankar as Ms. Dewey of MsDewey.com

This is search with an attitude. Truly one of the first innovative enhancements to your standard search api. Could this be an indication of where the search of the future will go? Will the simple whitespace that Google’s interface provide be obsolete? What exactly will it look like in five years? Ok, I’m off to LiveWebShop.com to buy Janina some jewelry.

Fishing In Montauk, New York

I was thinking about taking a little fishing trip to Montauk for the spring. I hear it’s beautiful that time of the year. My friend John Craft is the local aficionado when it comes to what’s going on in Montauk, including Montauk Fishing.

Jason Levitt is an Amazon Web Services Allstar

This week has been pretty interesting. I’ve been relaxing to a good book. I’d recommended the book before, but I finally go around to getting my hands on my own copy. Earlier in the week I’d ordered:

The Web Developer’s Guide to Amazon E-commerce Service: Developing Web Applications Using Amazon Web Services And PHP. The book is pretty awesome. Jason breaks everything down so that you don’t just know how to do something, but answers all the whys and what could  possibly happen type questions associated with everything. Unfortunately, a lot of times technical manuals can be dread fully boring, but Jason keeps my interest right from beginning.

I’m not done yet, I’m on page 79, but I’ve already learned a lot. Lots of history about Amazon and it’s services. I’ll post again and see what else I learn. I already know for sure I want to put a few of the scripts to good use on the awswebshop.com site. If you want to learn more about Jason, check out his book’s site awsbook.com.

Thanks for the great book Jason!

It’s All Good In Amazonville

I’m pretty sure it’s not just me when I say that Amazon is just making a tremendous break into the online search market. I think more and more online marketers are finding that Amazon has been flexible and profitable as a an associates program can get.

In my eyes, Amazon is the grand-daddy of all affiliate programs in existing today. Amazon Associates program has been around long before Ebay or Google Adsense. Amazon a long time player in the web services arena will now break into the pay per click market. Leveraging the power of it’s own search engine A9, amazon will be the second join Overture as serious competitor to Google Adsense.

With the increase in professional php developers creating amazon web services shopping carts amazon is seeing a rise in their bottom line, and a bright future ahead. Amazon has proved it can hold it’s own when it comes to having a strong online presence. Yahoo and Google will be keeping soilders on high alert. An Amazon assault is on the way.
